We all learn from our own experience that is taking corrective measures starting from our mistakes. This emerging technology bases exactly on this mechanism and aims to reproduce the system of reasoning of the human intelligence.

 

Creating systems, machines, technologies, which are able to think and act practically like a human mind?

Until some decades ago it seemed almost impossible, but now-a-day the new borders of the artificial intelligence for industrial applications could bring to new solutions with positive benefits on our life, as we have already seen for other emerging technologies (5G and blockchain).

 

WHAT IS THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

The artificial intelligence is an IT discipline studying theories, methods and technics aiming to conceive software and hardware systems allowing the computer performances that at first sight would seem exclusive domain of the human intelligence.

The concept is simple because it is the same of the human intelligence. We all learn from our own experience, which is only the repetition of actions many times, making mistakes and taking, starting from our mistakes, the corrective measures for our future self-improvement.

With the artificial intelligence, we try to reproduce this mechanism. The only difference is the algorithms which can repeat the action many times learning new data and information during every action.

The system training the artificial intelligence to perform this task improving the learning ability is the machine learning. If this algorithm brings the artificial intelligence to imitate the human mind we speak about deep learning.

 

APPLICATIONS OF THE ARTIFICAL INDUSTRY

There are many applications of the artificial intelligence in the industry and in the process automation.

In this regard, it is interesting the research of the Politecnico in Milan, which analysed over 700 societies and mapped more than 450 cases of artificial intelligence, detecting the following specific applications:

  • Self-driving vehicles;
  • Robot which can move, handle objects and execute actions without a human intervention;
  • Objects which can act and take decision without the human intervention;
  • Virtual assistants and chatbot understanding intonation and context of a dialogue, saving and reusing the information collected;
  • Solutions to guide preferences, interests and decisions of users basing on their information;
  • Systems analysing images and videos for the recognition of subjects showed;
  • Systems processing languages for the elaboration, comprehension, translation and production of texts autonomously;
  • Solutions analysing the algorithms of the artificial intelligence to get information.

It is easy to understand how the potential of the artificial intelligence in the industrial applications is enormous and in constant development: machines and processes will be more and more cooperative and able to learn autonomously improving the creation of new business models too.

FUTURE PERSPECTIVES

So now, we wonder: what will happen in the future with this artificial intelligence?

This year it has been estimated an increase of the total spending for the artificial intelligence of 44% for about 36 billion of dollars, which could reach within 3 years 79 billion.

The challenge is between United States and China where the applications are spreading more and more, both publically and privately.

What about Europe? Here we aim to the cooperation among countries with a precise intervention of governments and a support of the field with investments and a confrontation to establish the protection rules.
